Case study 2: Stopping the stock shrinkage dead in its tracks
A simple yet clever solution saw an immediate halt to branded merchandise shrinkage at an Auckland car dealership.
BMW Team McMillan has two showrooms, in Newmarket and Ponsonby, which sell cars and an exclusive range of high value branded clothing and car care accessories.
Management was concerned at unacceptably high merchandise losses and called upon ADT Armourguard for help.
The showrooms presented some challenges, being large and very open formats that were not well suited to traditional retail security solutions. What’s more, the showrooms’ formats were carefully designed to convey a sophisticated yet welcoming brand image that required security solutions to be effective yet very discreet.
Merchandise is now protected with self alarming tags and ink tags. Self alarming tags can be attached to clothing and other items and are ideal for delicate or high value items. Any unauthorised attempt to remove the alarming tags causes the integrated battery powered alarm to sound.
As the name suggests, ink tags release ink over items removed from the store, ensuring would be thieves gain no benefit from the theft.
All tags can be easily removed with a flush-mounted detacher, and re-used, thus providing a lasting and cost-effective solution.
Sam Tremewan, Team McMillan’s Parts Sales Advisor, says the security tags on items and the detatcher on the counter were discreet yet still conveyed a strong message. And the results were instantaneous: “our shrinkage problem stopped overnight”.
“ADT Armourguard’s solution was somewhat unorthodox but it was exactly what we needed and we are very happy with the results.”
“I was impressed with how ADT Armourguard tailored a solution to our needs. They listened to us, took time to understand what we wanted and thought outside the square. Their solution has been a great success and we expect a rapid return on our investment.”
