Home Security - ADT the World's Largest Security Company for Home, Business and Government
Burglars don’t take holidays – and neither do ADT.

Summer is a time for long days at the beach, and a chance to relax with family and friends away from home. Unfortunately, criminals know this too. Vacant homes are easily targeted by those looking for easy pickings at a time when there’s no one around.

You already have ADT’s alarm monitoring service to help keep your home safe throughout the year. And now ADT Security can offer you a special patrol service to keep a watchful eye on things over the holidays.

Our Holiday Home Minder Patrol Service is available on request, with the service tailored to your needs. Here are some of the things we can take care of while you’re away:

· Collecting mail and disposing of junk mail.

· Checking the outside perimeter of your home for any sign of unauthorised   activity or trespass.

· Checking for potential hazards or damage from extreme weather.

· Keeping an eye on your home if you have any young adult children there, to   make sure it doesn’t become the location of any unwelcome activity.

What happens if your alarm goes off?

You hope it never happens. But when your alarm is set off, that’s the signal for a swift response from our team. It’s a vital part of the service you can expect as an ADT monitored alarm customer.

For many of our customers, the dispatch of a licensed security officer is the first line of response. The officer will arrive to check for forced entries and confirm that there are no intruders. Confirmation will be made to you so that you can have peace of mind knowing the premises have been thoroughly checked and that no intruders remain on the property. If a forced entry has occurred, the officer will notify the authorities and also arrange, in conjunction with your emergency contact, any remedial work replacing locks or window glass if you are away.

Time is of the essence. When your alarm activates, a Mobile Patrol Officer will endeavour to respond within 20 minutes within city boundaries. If you live in a rural area, the Mobile Patrol Officer will make every effort to respond within a reasonable amount of time. Please note we do not have special powers to exceed the speed limit and must obey the traffic laws. So in all cases we use best endeavours and are not able to give exact timeframes.

Remember, our Mobile Patrol Officers are highly trained but they are not police officers. They have no powers to pursue criminals or act as a private police force. Securing your premises and contacting the appropriate authorities is the way we back up the alert your ADT alarm provides.

Top 10 ways to avoid break-ins

Burglars target homes that look empty, so the best way to thwart them is to make your home look like it’s lived in. Here are our top 10 tips to make your home more secure while you’re out of town.

In the home:

1. Lights inside give the impression the home is occupied. Use timers to     automatically switch on lights, TVs and sound systems.

2. Never leave an answering machine message indicating there’s no one home.

3. Don't let mail, newspapers or flyers accumulate. Get a neighbour to collect     them – or ask ADT about our new Holiday Home Minder Patrol Service.

4. Leave curtains slightly parted so the house doesn't have an empty look.

5. Ensure all external windows are secured with key operated locks.

6. Don’t leave valuables in sight.

7. Protect doors with dead bolts and secure sliding glass doors with a metal bar     or wooden dowel placed in the door track.

Around the home:

8. If possible, leave a car in the driveway while you’re away.

9. Is landscaping free from potential hiding places? Trim trees and shrubs to     allow clear visibility of the home. Tree limbs should be trimmed to prevent     thieves climbing into windows.

10. It’s also important, before you go on holiday, to record the serial numbers of     your valuables to help police locate your property in the event of a burglary.     Engrave them with a number unique to you, such as your Driver’s Licence, and     keep photographic records of valuables, especially jewellery, so they can be     easily identified.
