DSC Key fob (remote) programming options

ADT does not recommend customers change the default settings, except to prevent repeat false activations e.g from a key fob being in a trouser pocket or handbag.

The information below is provided to ensure customers are aware of their key fob control features and the time each button must be depressed to send the respective signal to the alarm control unit.

What do the buttons mean on my DSC four button key fob? programming-options-labelled
How have these buttons been programmed? All the buttons have been factory programmed with default delays (see below). This feature was specifically designed to eliminate false alarms, however these buttons can be set on instant transmission.
How do I adjust the factory settings for each button?

To adjust the key fob options:

  • Press and hold all four buttons until the LED begins to flash (approximately three [3] seconds).
  • Release the buttons.
  • Press one of the four buttons to make the required adjustment.
  • Refer following table for programming options.
Button Default Delay Programming Options
STAY 1 second Toggles the delay on all buttons except PANIC. Makes the buttons instant instead of one (1) second.
AWAY 1 second Toggles the delay on the PANIC key to between the default of three (3) seconds and the default of the other three (3) buttons, depending on whether you have customised the default settings.
DISARM 1 second Resets the operating frequency. May need to be done after changing batteries or if flat for a long period.
PANIC 3 seconds Toggles the PANIC key between “on” or “off”. Flashes twice for “off” and once for “on”.
How will I know if the key fob is acknowledging my event? The red LED light will be activated indicating the key fob is sending a signal to your security alarm panel. Should you be out of range, the key fob signal will not register with the alarm control panel.
What should I do if the alarm system does not respond to the key fob? Check you are not out of range*, try moving closer to wireless receiver unit (this is normally located either near the control panel or incorporated within the keypad).
*dependent on standard environmental factors affecting wireless signal transmission
What should I do if the LED light doesn’t come on?
  • Make sure the batteries are not flat; the keypad should indicate a trouble condition for a low battery condition before the battery runs totally flat. The ADT monitoring centre will call you if they have received a low battery service event.
  • Check you are holding the button down for the required time.
Is there a back-up PANlC feature?

Yes, there is a “double button” panic feature.

Pressing AWAY and STAY simultaneously is the same as pressing the PANIC button.

Unlike the PANIC button, this feature can NEVER be disabled. Note that the delay will reflect the settings for the other buttons i.e either one (1) second or instant.
